In 2018, oversight over our schools transitioned from the state-run Recovery School District to the locally elected Orleans Parish School Board. This was a positive step forward for OUR schools, bringing a new layer of local governance. Today, there are more high-quality local charter operators and school leaders than before. Especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we need to focus on continuing the progress. There is more work to do as we ensure that every child regardless of zip code has access to a high quality education.
